Batch Overnight Oats for the Week
Making overnight oats in individual jars is tedious; making a big base batch in a gallon bag and portioning it each morning is not. The base, oats plus milk plus chia, does not vary; only the toppings do. The Blue bag is the right size for five servings, and the flat shape means it lays flush in the fridge without pushing other things aside. Seal it, shake to mix, lay flat, and the whole week is ready.
What you need
- 2.5 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 2.5 cups milk (any kind)
- 1/2 cup chia seeds
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Toppings: fresh fruit, nut butter, granola, cinnamon
- 1 XXL Silicone Food Storage Bag (Blue)
Directions
- Add the oats, milk, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt directly to the Blue bag.
- Press in a little air so the bag has room to flex, then seal the zipper and shake vigorously to mix everything together.
- Press out any remaining air and lay the bag completely flat in the fridge overnight, at least 8 hours.
- In the morning, open the corner and pour a portion into a bowl or jar. Reseal the bag.
- Add your toppings: fresh fruit, nut butter, a handful of granola, or a pinch of cinnamon.
- Return the sealed bag to the fridge; the base keeps for up to five days.
Tips and notes
- The oats thicken as they sit; if the batch gets too thick by day three or four, stir in a splash of milk before pouring.
- Chia seeds absorb about ten times their weight in liquid, so they thicken quickly and add texture without cooking.
- Keep toppings separate until serving so the granola stays crunchy and the fruit stays fresh.
- For a warm version, pour a portion into a bowl and microwave 60 to 90 seconds, stirring once.
Get the XXL Silicone Bag
The Blue XXL bag holds a full week of overnight oats in one batch, lays flat to save fridge space, and the wide opening makes pouring easy every morning. The blue tint hides any berry staining from toppings.

Common questions
- How long does a batch of overnight oats last
- Up to five days in the fridge, sealed. By day four or five the texture is thicker and creamier; stir in a splash of milk if it is too thick.
- Can I use instant oats
- You can, but old-fashioned rolled oats hold their texture better over five days. Instant oats turn mushy by day two.
- Do I have to use chia seeds
- No. They thicken the batch and add protein, but leaving them out just gives a looser texture. The rest of the recipe works the same.
- Why the Blue bag instead of the Clear
- Blueberries, strawberries, and other fruit leave stains. The blue tint masks those so the bag still looks clean after a week of berry toppings.
