Make-Ahead Smoothie Packs

A week of grab-and-go smoothie packs takes up room, and one gallon bag is the easiest way to corral them. You portion fruit and greens into the freezer, and the XXL Blue bag holds a whole week of single-serving scoops in one place instead of a drawer full of little bags. The large size keeps your prep organized, and the tinted Blue silicone hides freezer frost so your week of packs looks tidy.

What you need

  • About 7 cups mixed fruit (banana, berries, mango, pineapple)
  • A few big handles of spinach or kale
  • Optional: chia seeds, nut butter, oats
  • Small portion cups or a muffin tin (optional)
  • 1 XXL Silicone Food Storage Bag (Blue)

Directions

  1. Decide on a base recipe, for example 1 cup fruit plus a handful of greens per smoothie.
  2. Portion each serving into the freezer: scoop straight into the big Blue bag in mounds, or pre-portion in a muffin tin and pop out frozen pucks.
  3. Add any dry extras like chia or oats to each portion if you want them built in.
  4. Press the air out of the Blue bag and seal it. The single bag holds the whole week's worth of portions.
  5. Freeze flat. When you want a smoothie, scoop or grab one portion's worth.
  6. Tip the portion into the blender, add liquid, and blend. No measuring on a busy morning.

Tips and notes

  • Freeze ripe bananas in chunks; they are the body of most smoothies and blend smooth.
  • Pre-portioning in a muffin tin gives neat pucks that are easy to grab one at a time.
  • Add greens raw and frozen; they blend right in and you will not taste them.
  • Keep liquid out of the freezer packs; add milk, juice, or water fresh at blend time.

Common questions

How do I keep the portions from freezing together
Pre-portion into a muffin tin and freeze pucks, or scoop in separate mounds. Then store them all in the one big bag and grab a portion at a time.
Do I add liquid to the freezer pack
No. Freeze just the fruit and greens, then add milk, juice, or water fresh when you blend. The packs stay easy to scoop.
How long do smoothie packs last
About two months for best quality, sealed airtight. Label the bag with the date so you use them in order.
Is one big bag better than many small ones
For a week of prep the single XXL bag keeps everything together and uses less plastic than a drawer of small bags. The size is the organizing benefit, not a drawback.
