Healthy Green Smoothie
This green smoothie tastes like fruit, not like a salad. Spinach blends in without a strong flavor, so the banana and pineapple carry the taste while the greens disappear into a creamy, bright drink. The frozen fruit makes it thick and cold without any ice. Blend the leaves with the liquid first to get a smooth base, then add the rest. This makes two glasses and comes together in about 5 minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh spinach, packed
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 ripe banana, frozen
- 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
Directions
- Add the spinach and almond milk to the blender first. Blend on high until the leaves break down and the liquid looks smooth and green, about 30 seconds.
- Add the frozen banana, pineapple, Greek yogurt, honey, and chia seeds if using.
- Blend on high until thick and creamy, 45 to 60 seconds. Stop and scrape down the sides once if needed.
- Taste and add more honey if you want it sweeter, or a splash of almond milk to thin it out.
- Pour into two glasses and serve right away while it is cold and thick.
Tips and variations
- Freeze ripe bananas in chunks ahead of time. They make the smoothie thick and cold without watering it down like ice does.
- Blend the spinach with the liquid before adding anything else. This breaks down the leaves fully so there are no green flecks.
- Swap the pineapple for mango or the spinach for kale. Kale is stronger, so start with less and add more to taste.
- For more protein, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of nut butter.

Common questions
- Will I taste the spinach
- No. Two cups of spinach blends right into the fruit, so you get the color and nutrients without a green flavor. The banana and pineapple are what you taste.
- Can I make it ahead
- It is best fresh, but you can store it covered in the fridge for up to a day. Shake or stir before drinking, since it may separate.
- How do I make it thicker
- Use more frozen fruit and less liquid. A frozen banana and frozen pineapple give it a thick, almost milkshake texture.
- Can I use dairy milk instead of almond milk
- Yes. Whole milk, oat milk, or coconut milk all work. Use whatever you keep on hand and adjust the sweetness to taste.
