Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This strawberry banana smoothie is thick, creamy, and blends up in about 5 minutes. A ripe banana brings natural sweetness and body, while frozen strawberries give it the cold, frosty texture without watering it down with ice. Use yogurt for tang and protein or milk for a lighter pour. This recipe makes two glasses and works for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk, plus more to thin
- 1 tablespoon honey, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Add the banana, frozen strawberries, yogurt, and milk to a blender.
- Blend on high until completely smooth, about 45 seconds.
- Check the texture. Add a splash more milk to thin it or a few more frozen strawberries to thicken.
- Taste and blend in the honey if you want it sweeter.
- Pour into two glasses and serve right away.
Tips and variations
- Freeze ripe bananas in chunks and keep frozen strawberries on hand. Frozen fruit is what makes the smoothie thick and cold without ice.
- For extra protein, blend in a scoop of protein powder or a spoonful of nut butter.
- Make it dairy free with a plant-based yogurt and oat or almond milk.
- Prep grab-and-go bags. Portion the fruit into freezer bags so you can dump, pour, and blend on busy mornings.

Common questions
- Should I use fresh or frozen fruit
- Frozen strawberries and a frozen banana give the thickest, coldest smoothie. With fresh fruit, add a handful of ice so it does not turn thin and watery.
- How do I make it thicker
- Use more frozen fruit and less liquid, or add a few tablespoons of rolled oats. Let it sit a minute and the oats thicken it further.
- Can I make it ahead
- Blend it fresh for the best texture. If you must prep ahead, store it in the fridge for up to a day and shake well before drinking.
- What can I use instead of yogurt
- Swap in more milk, a plant-based yogurt, or a banana for creaminess. Each changes the texture slightly but all work.
